Why do Cats Love Water

My cat Jazz is incredibly amazed and amused with water, especially her water bowl. When we first adopted her, we noticed this strange habit instantly. It started when we’d step in a big puddle of water every time we’d enter the kitchen. The answer became clear as to what was going on when we saw, a few feet out of our sight, was her water dish. We caught her in the act shortly after. She seems to love pawing over the surface, in a digging motion, and all around the outside of the dish / floor surrounding it. Then, she must get even more excited, because she starts scooting her dish around the floor, often times flipping it over (she has a HEAVY ceramic dish. Jazz continues to paw around and over her dish, but now I keep it on carpeting 🙂 Less spills, but I still can’t figure out why she does it. My sister has two cats, and I’ve never seen them do anything like it. Pretty funny, but confusing, cat habit.Yet another submission from a water cat. Felicity say’s our cat loves WATER! She loves to sit on the side of the tub with my mom when she takes a bath. My mom gets her hand wet and rubs water on her and she doesnt even care. She just licks it off. Our cat is also VERY PROPER when it comes to drinking water. She does not lick it up. She dips her paw in the water bowl, and licks her paw! And then repeats! Our cat also goes behind our house and catches fish in our creek. She brought a fishing trophy prize in our yard one time.

Cat amazed with water by: Anonymous We have a similar situation, we have a kitten that is about 6 months old and she is so fascinated with our water cooler we now put a bit of water in the cup down the bottom of it for her to play with. She even plays with the water before she has a drink. And when we have a shower she likes to be sitting at the door watching the water. When we get out of the shower she will go in there and sit down and look up waiting for the shower to turn on. I have even found when I go in the bathroom to brush my teeth she comes running in to watch the water and sticks her paws under the tap. It?s very cute but very weird.I am not sure why she does it but I sort of assumed it was because when we got her we gave her heaps of baths. I am so happy now that I am not the only one that has a cat that likes water.

Cat is amzed with water by: catwhisperer Your cat sounds like my little kitty Tillman. He has been playing in water from the day we got him. He was only 3 weeks old when his momma died so we took him in. He had been found in a flooded basement and had 2 other brothers who were much bigger than him. From day 1 he loved splashing in the water, getting soaked. Then 2 weeks later he heard the water running in the sink and he found his way up there, jumped in and played. He is now 9 months and loves water in sinks and bathtubs. We now have a fountain outside on our patio and we put sea shells in the bottom. He stalks these and splashes for hours. He even enjoys his monthly baths. It is cool to see that I am not the only one with a water cat. LOL

Cat in the shower

My Cat shower buddy. I have a cat, who will be 5 years old this spring. I’ve had him since he was a couple of weeks old. You could tell the moment we brought him home he had been abused by men. He would hide from all of us, I could get him to come out after a little bit of coxing but nothing my husband would do would make him come near him. He was actually got for my daughter but he’s been my shadow since the day he was brought him. We do everything together.Old SmokeyBones, he’s my shower buddy. For the past 3 years when I get in the shower, he stands between the shower curtain and the liner on the edge of the tub! Up until recently he would just sit there quietly and a few times I’d flick water on him to discourage him from being there, but he wouldn’t budge. NOW, he sticks his head inside the liner and MEOWS his head off at me, he’s even scratched the liner up, just meowing, as if saying “Mom i want in there with you… waaaa!!!” So i talk to him and he meows LOUDER. I really need to get a video of this! He doesn’t do it with anyone else in this house, just me. I love my cat shower buddy Bones to death!

funny cats by: Anonymous My cat does this too. What’s funny is he looks exactly like your cat. Maybe it’s common of the breed?

My cats drinking habit

Cats drinking water. My daughter/cat Kai is a 15 year old Tortie and a major brat. But I love her. When she was a baby I’d wake up in the night sensing a presence near my head. I would open my eyes and there is Kai drinking out of my water cup. This went on for years, she even drank my diet root beer, before I finally gave in. Now she has her own cup to drink out of and she is very happy. I was worried recently whether she would be able to continue drinking out of her cup, which we keep on a TV tray for her. We found out in August that she had cancer in her right front paw. They amputated her right leg (there’s a long cat story in that one.) My fears were entirely misplaced as soon as the anesthesia wore off there she was standing on one leg drinking her water.

Whose that drinking out of my faucet??!! by: Earle Atterton My black Bombay was taught to drink water out of the purified faucet on the kitchen sink. Since then, he won’t drink any other way. He turns his head upside down/sideways and consumes much more water than he ever did out of a bowl. Water is good for a cat’s kidneys, so he’s got the right idea. His name is Radio because he never stops talking. He loves to travel by car or airplane, which seems to confuse many air travelers at the airport.

Saphire the kitten by: Anonymous I have an eight week old kitten (Saphire) that does the same thing. She always has fresh water, but she insists on drinking out of the glass or water bottle im drinking from. I guess she thinks if I’m drinking out of it it must be ok.

About wet paws by: Zoe Hi Toni: I would love to see your cat do this drinking with the paw thing (way cute). I have never seen a cat do that! Maybe if you got one of those new fangled electric cat drinking fountains your cat would change his way of drinking the water?

My cats wet paws by: Toni Speaking of cats drinking habits. My cat, Tuxedo, insists on dipping his paw in the water bowl and drinking the water from his paw. I tried changing water bowls. It’s cute but I worry that he’s not getting enough water. Any thoughts or suggestions?

cup cat by: Anonymous Once you get a cat started drinking out of a particular vessel, I guess that they just keep using that vessel.

A cats drinking problem by: Amanda Hi Janelle: What a touching story. It’s nice to here that there is a happy ending to it. You are a good mother! My cat refuses to drink anything but fresh water. After the first drink its all over. When he returns to the water bowl latter in the day he smacks it across the tile floor to notify us that its time to refill it for another drink.
