Kitten in the box nap
Trying to figure out why my cat died suddenly. He was only 2 years old and seemed very healthy. No really outward signs of illness where detected. We got him as a newborn kitten from a trusted friend of the family. We took him to the vet and got him checked out and he also had his recommended kitten vaccinations at that time. A year latter we took him back for a follow up appointment where he got another shot. Sorry not sure what the shots where. But he went the next year with absolutely no cat health problems. However 2 days before he died, he peed on my bed, 2 nights in a row in the same spot. This was a cat that was easily litter box trained and never had litter box urination issues. I did not even have a chance to take him in for a check up because he died. Do you think the cat’s urination behavior was trying to tell me or warn me about something? I feel so bad for not responding quicker and getting him to a vet.

Itty Bitty Boy by: Anonymous My cat died suddenly yesterday afternoon, he was just laying by his bowl, dead. I hand raised him, fed him with a syringe the first 4 weeks of his life, I was his mamma, his name was Itty Bitty Boy, he was so tiny, all ears and huge little balls like two orange peas. He wanted to live though, so much he was a tiny fierce kitten, who grew into a 14 pound cat. He was such a lover, such a character, very vocal, incredibly silly, obedience trained like a dog. Super spoiled rotten, super healthy, an indoor cat…My heart is broken for missing my Itty boy. Thank you folks for having this platform for me to mourn my cat. My husband is sad too, I really needed to cry ,here, instead of on his shoulder, for a while.

my cat died suddenly by: Kimberly Davis My cat last march pooped on are bed. just like you he used the liter box. 2 days later I noticed a hole in his chest got caught on a fence. he was trying to tell me something. He was in the vet for about 1 month stitched up and on medicine. brought him home. everything was good well he started to have a small pin hole in the same area. took him back to the vet. Infection was there for another 10 days. by April everything’s good great health. Then this January 25 died suddenly. The vet staff are giving me different stories. sent organs to the lab. first the told me a heart blockage during autopsy. Then they changed it to must have ate a poisonous plant. but kidneys looked in normal range. No indication or symptoms of poisoning. I still don’t have any answers. I just want closure. This is horrible!

Check the litter by: Rachel Sorry for your loss. I always check BB’s litter box. I make sure it is always clean and ready for use. I make sure he pees / poops regularly and check the consistency. He eats one small can of soft food and has a bowl of healthy adult kibbles for his digestion, hair balls and teeth. His coat is like silk, gums are pink and stools are compact. Hope I could help.

My 2 year old just died by: Steve P. Yesterday, my 2 year old cat just died for no reason. He was not sick that was visible anyway. He was fine 2 hours before he was found.I took him to vet and the vet performed an autopsy. The vet said he was healthy except for a clogged nose……full of mucus, His heart was good and no blockages. I got the autopsy for 2 reasons…..one…to find out what happened and two….I have 10 other cats and didn’t want them to catch any diseases. I didn’t really get an answer from the vet other than a clogged nose. I just have to watch the other cats very carefully.

My cat Missy has started doing that now. by: Anonymous Since the past one week Missy who looks just like the cat in the above picture, has been urinating just outside her litter box. She’s not been looking too good either. She was very playful but hasn’t been recently. I hope she’s ok.. she’s probably 18 or so.. We found her on the streets when she was just about (maybe) a year old. We pay the mortgage, she’s the owner of the house!!!! I had written a cat I had before Missy.. he died at only 1 year old..!! It was one sad day for me. the link: http://echoesofthepast-missy.blogspot.com/p/like-losing-kid

🙁 by: Anonymous My kitty of 10 years was put to sleep this afternoon because of a UTI. I didn’t notice any changes in his activity, nor in his bathroom habits. It must have came on quickly, because my mom had asked me if I noticed anything differently about him, and I just saw him pee a good amount over the weekend. The vet wanted to do surgery to him, and it was going to cost $800, and it wasn’t guaranteed. The only other option was to put him to sleep. I feel for you.

i understand by: Anonymous i had a five year old male cat named buddy he was beautiful and my baby. two years ago he got sick. he was blocked and had to stay in the hospital for 3 days. after he came home he went right back to him self, then two weeks ago, he got sick again. i took him to the vets they kept him and for 5 days this time. i was so worried and called to check on him every day. then they said he was better and could come home, that was the last time i saw him use any energy, he jumped into my arms when i got there to get him, but that night he wouldn’t move and started urinating on himself. that just continued for days. i called the vet back and they said give him his meds which i was twice daily. I didn’t understand why he was getting so bad i just paid 500 to fix my boy. so i called another vet and he came in on his day off and worked on him for 2 hours and told me to try a different med and see how that went and to bring him back within 48 hours. well that was Saturday night and at 8 am Monday he was gone, 8 days since i noticed he was sick and $700 later he was gone i was devastated. i miss him and neither vet had an answer other then he must have been toxic yet no blood was ever taken and i am left to wonder, would that have made a difference?

I think the cat had a UTI by: Anonymous i’m thinking he had a UTI and was blocked, which means his bladder was extremely full and most of the time he was unable to pee. What happens next is the cat will be able to squeeze some out and that usually happens exactly where the cat is at the moment he feels the ability to release urine. Since he died so quickly that is what I think happened too . When the bladder gets very full the urine backs up to the kidneys and bacteria find their way into the blood. Then the cat has a massive infection that causes death.

Warning signs by: Anonymous My cat did something similar but within a week she started fitting. This has been controlled by medication but unfortunately causes are guess work ranging from stroke to brain tumor.

Warning Signs by: Anonymous I am sorry I forgot to mention it but if a male cat in particular gets crystals in his system they can die within hours. If you witness your cat acting strange or urinating in a place other than the litter box please do not hesitate. You must get it to a vet immediately. It could mean the difference between life and death and although you don’t mention what your cat was I suspect it was male and I am sincerely sorry for your loss.

Warning Sign by: Anonymous When a cat has a sudden change in toilet habits it is often a sign that something physical has gone wrong. People some times mistake this for bad behavior. As an example if a cat has a UTI for instance, urinating hurts so they associate their litter box with pain and try to escape the pain by peeing somewhere else. Sometimes this behavior can be due to stress. A stress which you may not recognize such as another cat playing outside on your property when your cat can see it but can’t get out to protect its territory.Cats are complicated and sophisticated little beings and you must always try to understand their behavior when it has taken a change from the norm.
