Are you part of the 56 percent of households that own pets in the U.S.?
If you have a pet like a dog or a cat, there’s a good chance you’ve had to resort to using the cone of shame once or twice to keep them from irritating a wound or injury.
There’s nothing fun about forcing your fur baby to wear a cone around their head. Luckily, though, there are also a lot of alternatives that work just as well.
Listed below are some effective alternatives to the cone of shame for dogs and cats.
1. Inflatable Collar
An inflatable collar is a great option for those who don’t want to resort to using the cone of shame. They function in a similar way, but they’re much more comfortable for your furry friend.
While wearing this collar, they’ll have an easier time navigating their way through doorways, and they’ll be able to lay down and relax more easily.
2. Soft Collar
A soft collar is another good alternative.
Soft collars have a cone shape, but they’re more comfortable and less bulky than traditional cones. They can also be flipped down and worn more like a cape than a regular cone.
They come in lots of fun colors and prints, too, so you can find one that best suits your pet’s personality.
Depending on your pet and their temperament, you might be able to get away with having them wear a sweater to cover up their wound.
If your pet doesn’t pull or scratch at sweaters, go ahead and slip one on them while you wait for their wound to heal.
Be sure to consider the temperature in your area, though. If it’s the middle of summer, putting a sweater on them is probably not the best option.
4. Baby Clothes
Baby clothes are a good alternative to sweaters. If the weather is too warm for a sweater, try slipping a baby’s T-shirt or tank top over your furry friend. This will help to protect their wound from infection, but it won’t be uncomfortable like a sweater might be.
5. Comfy Cones
You can also purchase a cone that’s made of soft, adjustable material.
These options are not as stylish as some of the other options, and they don’t even come close to cute accessories like a leather bow tie dog collar, but they get the job done.
They’re much more comfortable than regular cones, too.
