Cat urine cleaning

Cat urine cleaning and stomping out the stains. When it comes to cat urine removal many household cleaners only temporarily mask, the strong smell of urine and even vomit. These cat messes will stubbornly set fast in your carpet fibers or even into the surface of your hardwood floor.

Your house doesn't have to smell like a barnyard. A basic understanding of the chemical makeup of urine and vomit is that they are composed of organic materials such as sulfur and ammonia, these carbon and nitrogen rich compounds attract naturally occurring bacteria in your home.

The pungent odors that seem to worsen after using a certain household cleaner for the removal of cat urine and vomit are a result of the volatile byproducts created by the normal bacterial processes.

Cat urine cleaning with household chemicals or homemade solutions containing ammonia or vinegar can worsen the smell and even solidify the stain.

As for ammonia, this can actually attract the cat back to the spot or the scene of the crime. Ammonia is a natural byproduct of urine and using it reinforces the odor rather than removing it.

Another popular home remedy is vinegar. This acts primarily as a disinfectant and often only provides a temporary relief from the bacteria that produces the odor.

Another common mistake when it comes to cleaning cat urine is the attempt to clean the soiled carpeting with a steam cleaner. Steam cleaners work great to remove ordinary dirt, but the heat can bake the organic stains and set them into the carpet fibers, leaving a permanent odor.

Cat urine removal

Keep pressing on these carpeted surfaces until you no longer see any moisture being absorbed. Be careful when rubbing the area because this can push the urine deeper into the carpet and the carpet pad below it.

After the area has been blotted as much as possible, it is time to neutralize the odor by applying a pet stain enzymatic cleaner to the area. This is your best bet so follow the label directions and allow the solution to set in before soaking it up. Be patient enzymatic products need at least 24 hours to successfully clean the soiled area.

Cat urine cleaning from fabrics

Baking soda, which is bicarbonate of soda, can be very effective at removing urine from fabrics such as bedding and other washable materials.

For urine soaked bedding and other machine washable materials add 1 pound of baking soda along with your detergent and wash with cold water. Baking soda naturally absorbs odors and discourages bacterial growth. Avoid using hot water because just like with steam cleaning it can set the odor into the fabric or the fibers of the material.

Spotting old stains and old pet messes especially cat urine can be difficult to locate. If you can't pinpoint the particular spot by sniffing it out, or use a black light bulb available at your local hardware store.

Turn off the lights at night and survey the floor surfaces or any suspect area with this light. Old pet stains give off a greenish yellow fluorescent glow. Use chalk or soap or another easy to clean material to outline the old stain to ensure the complete cleanup of the affected area.

Cat urine removal is another challenging aspect of owning cats. Just as when trying to correct bad cat Behavior, Patience is a virtue when it comes to cat urine cleaning. Your patience and time will overcome the stain and leave you with a fresh smelling cat urine free home.
