Whats in dry cat food

This isn't so much about either of my senior siamese cats both 15 years old but on the dry cat food we feed our cat friends. We do not have regulations on how the dry or wet cat food is processed here in Canada.

But in the USA they do have regulations, I would like to see the laws changed here in Canada. Both my cats have had the crystals in the urine thing and I do not care for them to go through that again.

Which brings me back to whats really in that dry cat food?

My male had this problem
by: Anonymous

Hi I'm in New Zealand and when I took my male cat into be neutered we discovered that he had crystals in his urine. This was treated with food that helped break up the crystals and lowered the PH level of his urine.

He was raised on cat biscuits and is still on biscuits 4 years later. Although now I look for food that is for neutered cats and/or lowers the PH level in the urine, also known as FLUIT (not sure if I've spelt that right).

I also make sure he has lots of water to drink and keep the drinking water away from the food as I've heard cats consider water next to their food dirty. He drinks much more now and has been healthy ever since.

My 5 year old female cat eats the same food and has never been sick a day in her life. I'm tired, rambling and have forgotten the question lol but I hope this helps.

dry cat foods
by: Boz (UK)

One thing to remember about any dry cat food, even the costly or prescribed ones, is that they are very high in carbohydrates.

Something that is alien to the natural diet of the carnivorous cat. I had a diabetic cat and fell into the trap of buying a very expensive kibble from the vet.

My own literature research leads to me to believe that all dried cat foods are better off left on the shelf, apart from the odd offering as a treat.

I had no idea that this was even a issue. I am anxious to hear from others on this subject. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!
