Weird cat behaviors
Weird cat behaviors: I had a cat that loved freshwater. Whenever I would refill and clean the water bowl. She would come right over and start drinking. After that first drink out of the water bowl She would not return until the bowl was clean and refilled again. My cat began to study my behaviors when cleaning and refilling her bowl. Cat drinking out of faucetMy cat realized that her freshwater was coming out of a chrome-plated faucet. At this point, my cat decided to cut out the middleman (the bowl) and head directly for the water source. In my cat's opinion, the fresher the water, the better the taste and smell. My cat also identified other faucets in the house besides the one in the kitchen that could supply her needed water. 
At first she would jump up on the sink and wait for me to turn on the water at a slow trickle so that she could drink. Again, my cat studied my behavior and figured out that the large chrome handle would turn on the water. She would grab the cold side handle and turn on the water.
On a few occasions she would turn on the water to fast and not be able to drink the water because she would have to get wet. After months of practicing she got the procedure down and would use her paw to tap on the handle gently until the proper flow was achieved. Weird cat behaviorsMy cat drinking out of the faucet was very cute but when I came home from work the water was always running. Turning off the water was not beneficial skill in my cats opinion. My water bill tripled so I had to do something! I came up with a solution to this problem. I would stick a rubber band on the faucet handles to keep them closed while I was at work. My cat finally gave up on turning on the water and after a few months went back to waiting for me to turn on the water. The last part of this weird cat behavior story is that my cat continued to investigate the faucet trying to figure out where the water was coming from. Whenever I opened up the cabinet under the sink she would jump in there and follow the pipes to the wall. I believe she was still looking for a fresher source of water.
My cat believed that if she could find out where the cold water was coming from that she would have even fresher water. I believe she wanted me to take her to the water pumping station where our water originated from.
