Sudden Caution in Older Cat

by Rick & Linda
(Medford, OR)

Skunk

Skunk

Our cat, Skunk, is an outdoor country cat. She has always been an excellent hunter and pretty much the "queen bee" around the other cats and dogs. She comes indoors often and sleeps on the bed when its cooler outside. An all around wonderful cat.

Recently, and quite suddenly, she pauses and inspects EVERYTHING that is low and close around her before moving on cautiously. Going in and out of doors, just an all around EXTREME caution when she approaches anything.

At first we thought it might be her sight, but she seems to see just fine find her food, us when we call her, etc. So, I don't think it's a vision problem.

Do older cats lose their senses and sensibility with age?

Skunk is in good health, and we would just like to know what is going on. Has anybody experienced anything similar?
