Manx Cat Behavior

Manx cat behavior problems I need help! My 2 yr old male Manx cat does something strange each night when I get in the bed. He wants me to put my hand under the covers. Then he grabs the blanket in his teeth and starts to pull and back up at the same time.

He doesn't get anywhere but just keeps trying to back up my arm. If I try to take my hand out, he growls and makes funny sounds. He only does this that one time each night but would continue his pulling until I finally get tired and stop.

Then he lays down. It reminds me of a wild cat trying to pull or drag a kill up a tree to eat it. Has anyone had this experience? Thanks for your input. Judy

For the past 3years me and my family thought that my cat must just be retard. I'm pregnant and have a pulled muscle keeping me sitting all day. My cat was behind me doing whatever. I asked my husband to put the dog in my lap. The moment he step toward me with the dog my cat went slap crazy.

She started hissing and trying to attack the dog. This is strange behavior because the dog and cat get along very well. They will even sleep beside each other at times. My husband got the cat and she calmed down unless she saw the dog on my lap. I got up to go to the bathroom when the dog got up the cat went crazy trying to attack again. My husband tried to hold her down but got some really bad bites from her.

We locked her up and she still goes crazy if someone opens the door and will not let anyone touch her but me. We did some research to see if cats can have protective side for a human they are attached to. Instead we found a cat called a Manx. The personalities match to a T. We cant find anything bout them being that protective but they can be if they are attached to one person.

As for your cat not using the litter box after moving it. We had this problem a lot with our cat. If we ever had to move it we locked her in that room for an hour or she would go on our bed. Found out this is something Manx cats do because you pissed them off moving their stuff. If the cat don't cover their poop they are showing dominants over you How to fix that no clue.

Help with my manx cat

I have a question for anyone that can please help me? I got a Manx (male) neutered cat that was a rescue. I have had him for about 3 months now. I keep the litter boxes in the basement, I started finishing off part of my basement about a month ago and had to move the litter boxes, I only moved them about 15ft.

My manx then started to go to the bathroom in another area of the basement, I researched and found that maybe it was the noise going on in the basement, so I brought one of the litter boxes up into a room for him to use and left one in the basement. But he would still go on the basement floor.

So, I am at the point now where i was told (from the vet) to keep him in that room with food, water and a litter box for 12 days so he knows to only use the litter box. And if that does not work he is a barn cat? It's only been a couple of days so far and he is only using the litter box.

I hope this works, because if it doesn't i will have to take him back to where i got him. So, my question is, has anyone else ever had this problem with the Manx and what did you do?? We are attached to him and he is a sweet cat otherwise. He is so happy to have a good home with another cat for him to play with. But he does sometimes get a little rough and i have to stop them. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My manx eris does this at night and what i do is 3 things to alleviate this.

1) I will play rough house with her for a half hour before bedtime for example, I will rub her head and belly really fast and switch between the two till she's tuckered out.

2)I will pet her after that when the lights are out and she lays on my pillow sometimes shell do the drag and play at this time i just let my are play dead and if she gets to rough i let her no (OWIES)and she will be softer in her play.

3) At night when i sleep and she does this i will pick her up and hold her and pet her under the blanket and she curls right up and gos to sleep.

my "Bob"

This is really more a question than a comment: my Bob (so named for his lack of tail) is a cat who found us in a state park. He has absolutely no tail at all. Nothing, nix, nada. He's a great guy, I love him to death and he is my therapy cat. Recently I took him to be micro-chipped, and the guy who placed the chip just went on and on about what a great manx he is.

I told him that I didn't think he's a manx because I found him as a stray. Now that I've read some descriptions of the manx personality, I must say that it fits Bob to a tee. He really is very dog-like. He's the official greeter, he'll sit by the door waiting for visitors, and he makes sure they all get both a warm welcome and goodbye. He is an incessant talker. He's a very big boy, nearly 20 pounds, a ginger colored tabby with magnificent whiskers. Is any tailless cat a manx, or is Bob simply suffering from a birth defect?

My 2 year old female cat does the same thing. She will play and pull at the bedspread and bite and then go lay down at the foot of the bed for the night.

He prob does not want you to go to bed. Ours does a lot of odd things one of which is an attack like behavior every time I'm dressing for work. And he is neutered . We had ours devalued very young and can imagine how bad it would be if we had not he is a handful . We crate ours at night and walk him on leash as well. Good luck, oh yeah they live extra long lives as well.

I am from the Isle of Man and have owned Manx (and other 'ordinary') cats all my life. The cat you show here is what we call a stumpy - the pure Manx cat (rumpy)has no remnant of a tail whatsoever. Manx cats are very idiosyncratic in their behavior and some people call them 'dog-cats' as they will follow you around similar to the way a dog will.

Actually my neighbor has to put his Manx cat on a leash and take it for a walk with his dog or there is hell to play from the cat! The behavior at night that you refer to with regards pulling and dragging is not specific to the Manx breed though - some cats just do this, and some dogs do it too. Basically, if you don't like it then don't let the cat in your bedroom.

Tom cats are just unpredictable

Sam is almost 3 yrs old now and he is doing this strange thing less often now. Male cats are unpredictable for sure. We were on vacation for about 10 days. My son was checking on him daily.

The day we got back I went outside to bring him in before bed and he was acting strangely and attacked my leg and bit me. I have four fang marks. He is really not mean at all, but I think he was just stressed about us being gone. Tom Cats are just weird.

My cat started doing this as well...but when I took my hand out, he bit it. Just a scratch but it's starting to scare me. I've been putting him in the hall. I don't want him to come near my face when I'm sleeping...have you gotten any further info on why they do this? PS..It's not a manx

My kitty does this too. I do not know why, but its funny. Trying to be a scary cat. Maybe its normal cat behavior?
