I think I might know why your cat likes the purple pipe cleaner and not the other colors. Cats are supposedly partly color blind. They can see purple, blue and green. The rest is pretty much gray to them. So, imagine a bright purple, light weight toy thing to swat around in a sea of gray and blue... that's probably your cat's favorite or most brightly seen color!

When I first got my silver tabby, sushi, at about 5 months or so she had a purple toy pipe cleaner too, she ignored all her other toys, odd. She is a very strange cat.
