I had the same issue with my kitty. It started when he was about two. I put him on Science Diet's ID food. It was more expensive but did the trick. I kept him on it for about a year and then switched him back to Iams and the problem is gone. Like anything though, checking with your vet is always a good idea, to make sure it is nothing more serious.
