Growling Cat

My Cat is 18 months old. She had a litter of 7 kittens about six months ago. She adapted well to taking care of them and we found each one a good home except for one we decided to keep. Since about a month ago she has been acting very strange.

We let both cats outside and she normally will come back with in the same day for food and cuddles. However, now she can be out for 3 days at a time and we have no idea where she is. When she does come inside its very brief.

However if i keep her inside she is constantly growling. She does not growl at anything in particular she will just sit there sounding very irritated. If her baby comes near she will growl a bit louder.

I thought it was a jealousy thing but spending more time with her and giving her special cuddles did not seem to help. What is wrong with her?
