Champ is confusing

by Martha
(ILLINOIS)

Champ

Champ

My cat Champ is confusing. Okay, I got this cat nearly a year ago at a shelter. The first few days, he would grab the back of my knee. He didn't draw blood or anything just grab.

Then he did it less and less. Now currently, in the last week, his rubbing against me has been rather harsh, getting pushy. Then he tried to grab my knee the following Saturday.

What is with this guy? I thought I had this solved? Is he looking for attention or just "pushing my buttons"?

Now what is Champ doing?
by: Randi

Okay, here's another thing I am wondering. At bedtime, Champ will settle in to sleep but first he wants to play? His eyes get big and he wants to paw at me. Is this normal and what does THIS mean?

Champ cat is confusing

Thank you for your comments Mark. I've always had dogs all my life and they too like to try domination. The last dog I had was a Canaan and that dog was a real challenge all 14years of his life.

Now I have a cat that is so dog like as long as Champ doesn't bite down hard on me, I think we will be together a long time.

First I would like to say that Champ is a beautiful child. It does sound like he may be practicing dominant exercises on you. The grabbing behind your knee could be considered like grabbing the back of the neck of another cat.

This action as well as the pushing on you with all of his weight could both be considered dominate behavior. It would seem he might be trying to show you who the boss is (Him). Once he has established dominance in his own mind the activities may decrease but will usually continue.
