The kitty stair down is actually quite normal, i found my two cats doing the same thing, i have one cat, Oliver who doesn't seem to be the brightest cat in the world, he will stair him self down for hours in the mirror, or in anything shiny.
I don't think he realizes that it's himself in the mirror and thinks it's a strange kitty and is staring him down to defend his territory, it' not some thing i would worries about, i don't think it's the canobus either..lol
