Kneading is a sign of affection, trust and acceptance, and I agree with the other assessments. My 5 yr old neutered male also kneads my hair, purring profusely, when I am lying down.
He only does it occasionally, and some long stretches, of weeks, with out that behavior at all. My 2 yr old female only kneads a certain chair! If only they could talk and tell us why!

Kitty loves you by: Anonymous
Cats sometimes use grooming to show dominance. The groomer is the dominant one. However, only cats who are very close emotionally groom each other. Your cat is probably very pleased with you and is accepting you socially, while still expressing his dominance.
It's probably best to just let him do it. He might get offended if you pull away. I have a very friendly cat who likes to chew in my hair. Cats do this to get rid of fleas. She will sometimes pull and lick in my hair too. But she gets annoyed if I try to make her sit down in my lap.

Approval & Love by: Tiffany
Kitties usually hang together, and, as I am sure you know, they sleep, eat and groom one another. Your 4-legged-baby is showing you that you are accepted, loved & considered one of the gang.
If you pull away, it is almost as if you are refusing the acceptance, in the kitty's mind, anyway.
Plus, kitties like to be playful & mischievous, so I am sure you'll end up with lots of quirky stories. I know I sure have.
