Cat Who Loves to Bite

by Danna
(Dominica)

Bitey On her chair

Bitey On her chair

I have a lovely ginger stripped cat tabby I believe. We all affectionately known her as Gingy. She is one year old and very frisky but she has a very bad habit. She sometimes attacks me (out of the blue). We can be lying on the bed enjoying each-others company and she just decides to bite me and then run away. The bites are very hard and most times draws blood.

This really troubles me because I just do not see any warning signs of the impending attack. She is a house cat but I do give her time to roam about the yard when I come home from work. The yard has an 8 foot wall so she gets to go outside without being at risk of getting out of the yard.

We provide love and understanding as well as plenty of cat toys and activities. She doesn't seem nervous or have any other behavioral issue other then the surprise biting attacks. My son describes her bite as like a snake or viper as they are so fast like a snake striking? Can anyone shed some light on this behavior for me. Thanks Danna

Gingy cat
by: Gingy's mum

Gingy has come a long way. Not too much biting like before only when we I play rough with her or she just isn't in the mood to play.

She is just a darling those days.

my cat too!
by: Christina S.

I have a 1 year old cat that bites instead of scratches! She is really prey driven & even killed my canary when we were out. If you put your face too close she bites. she bites my boy cat on the ear & throat. He tries to avoid her.

Sweetest Cat
by: Gingy's mum

Although she loves to bite, but it has lessened and I think I know why. She is a house cat and she is usually in the house while I am at work. I realized that her aggressiveness was due to being indoors for too long. So now, when I get home, I let her out to run about.

She is a very energetic cat and this is what makes her so much fun. There is never a dull moment when she is around. She loves to play and ambush me at times.

The daily outings has made her even happier and less aggressive. I can safely say that the biting has lessened.

She is the best cat in the world.

Gingy! Cat who Loves to Bite
by: Nadette

I am a cat lover and have had cats. Cats love to play and sort of wrestle with you. For some cats the rougher you play with them the better and the harder they bite.

Cats will attack you as you pass for no reason, this is just the way they amuse themselves.

As Gingy gets older though, you will find that these habits change.

However, I love Gingy just the way she is. I don't like lazy cats. Gingy is energetic, smart and healthy. Most of all, she is happy!

Happy Cat
by: Anonymous

I am acquainted with Gingy hence the reason why I support the description given by Danna in terms of her behavior. Nonetheless, Gingy is the happiest, healthiest, and smartest cat that I have encountered.

Although she has never bitten me,I am aware that she normally loves to bite when playing. At the moment, I cannot identify a solution to her 'occasional biting habit.'
