Cat puts paper ball in water bowl

by Mariana
(Argentina)

My cat Nina is almost 7 months old, when I notice she wants to play I make a paper ball and throw it from my bed. She runs for the ball and plays with it with her paws.

Then she bites it and comes back up to the bed with the ball so I throw it again. THE THING IS after a few times of doing this, for some reason she puts the ball in her water bowl! I wonder why she puts the paper ball in the water dish?

Because then I have to make another paper ball to keep playing our game. It is so weird. Anybody else have this toys in the water bowl issue with their cats?

Bonus weird cat behavior story: She also hates my plush bear (one of those old doodle bears) and attacks the bear out of nowhere.

My cat puts things in water bowl too!
by: Anonymous

Very strange, as my year old cat will place all kinds of objects in the water bowl whether it's a toy, or trash from the bathroom trashcan. As soon as he gets his paws on something which I assume he knows he's not to have, he runs very quickly to the water bowl and in it goes!

I have 4 cats total and he's the only one that does this. Also, he will not place objects in the cat drinking fountain, but only in the water bowl which we also provide in addition to the fountain.

she is putting her toy away.

Cats sometimes put their toys in food or water dishes because the dish is THEIRS, they know this and know it will always be there. It is a territory thing, and as such they feel that their toy will be safe in the dish, that no one will take it. It can be counter-productive, as the toy becomes wet and unusable, but that's why they do it.
