Cat howling noises

The cat howling noises are driving me nuts. I have a male cat that is 1 1/2 yrs old. He has always been an inside cat since birth except for the little time he spends out on the balcony of our apt. Here lately he has been standing at different walls howling so loud that it sounds like someone is hurting him.

When we go to see what is going on, he is just staring at the wall. Now I have head that animals see things that we humans don't. I was wondering why he is doing this.

Is there something there that we don't know about. And how can i get him to stop doing this. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is that he does this. He will stand there and howl, then after a few minutes he stops.

Then a few hours goes by and he is standing at a different wall doing the cat howling noises again. Please help with this if you can. I would hate to get rid of him because I love him so much, but the neighbors are starting to complain and I'm afraid it is going to come down to him going or me trying to find a new place to live.

Cat howling has stopped

Okay we have gotten moved into the new place and all I can say is that maybe there WAS something in the walls at the other place. We have been in the new place since 27th of December and he has not howled one time. He is not jumping at the walls, he is just being his old self.

He is playing and curling up next to me again. I am so glad I chose to move instead of getting rid of him. Who knows, maybe the howling was his way of protecting or warning me of something wrong.

my male Russian blue does this, turned out he had diabetes. The vet put him on medication to kick the pancreas. Now he is remission for now. You just have to check every option and keep loving them.

to those thinking I want to get rid of my cat... I don't... I love him very much...the howling is still going on... and I have been evicted because of it...I am moving into a new place later this month and the new landlord already knows about him and his howling and said that there isn't a problem.. he is welcome there and that they understand... I am so happy that I am able to keep him.. but still wish I knew why he is doing all the howling..

I don't want to get rid of my baby

trust me I don't want to get rid of my baby.. I love him so much.. I have now been evicted because of his howling all night long... and have informed the manager of the new place I am moving to about him and his howling... they told me that it was not a problem and that I had nothing to worry about.

if you get rid of the cat because he howls... then you should NEVER have another animal. that is horrible.

maybe there is something in the walls, cats hear a lot better than humans as well as see things we don't, maybe there is something hanging out in there, or tickling water. don't get rid of your kitty just cos some neighbors have complained about him.

for all you know he is warning you about a leak or an infestation, any house can get infested with anything, most insects and rodents go towards warm dry clean places but we associated them with dirty damp places cos they are safer there so that is where they go.

kitty might be doing your whole building a favor. now its just a case of getting your landlord to check it out, if they'll take a cats word for it.
personally i trust my cat Eevee more than the majority of human beings i know.

I think when you take the responsibility of a pet he becomes part of the family. You shouldn't get rid of him at the first sign of something. Us humans have way more problems than any little cat problem. If you take on the responsibility of the cat, he is your problem. That does not mean to just pass it on to someone else. Maybe he just wants to go out? Is he fixed?

We have a female cat that howls every night around midnight. My girl friend thinks it has something to do with parenting or missing out on being a mother. Reading up on the subject it seams in the wild that the howling is used to pull the family together. Not sure why your male cat is doing this or how staring at the wall ties in.

I do feel for you since your housing situation is on the line. Some people from the cat community claim that the feliway defuser helps with behavioral problems in cats. It disperses some kind of cat feramone into the air that is supposed to have a calming effect. You can see it here on this site.
