Cat Gone Weird

by Diane
(Cambridge)

Cat gone weird. I have 2 cats called Bob and Marley. I took Bob to the vets today and he had a wee on the vet- this isn't the weird part. When we got home I gave Bob a bath as the wee had also gotten on me and he decided to roll in it and get it all over himself- still not the weird part.

The strange thing is after this Marley who has always been a timid cat, after this incident has started growling at Bob. She won't even be in the same room as him. When I go to stroke her it takes her ages to calm down and then every noise makes her jump! She has always been timid with others but never with me.

Bob and Marley have been together 2 years so I don't understand her sudden change in behavior towards Bob! Any ideas?

RE CAT GONE WEIRD
by: Roz from Driffield

Having just read Eric's comment I totally agree with him. Iv had loads of problems with Sweetie Pie! She had calmed down a little but then was yowling and very friendly every 2 weeks! so I googled her symptoms and guess what I found out? She was coming into heat! But she had been spayed before I got her! So I took her to my vet, who took a blood test and found she had ovarian remnants!

Which is quite rare! So I had to take her back to the vets who had spayed her and they had to open her up and found a piece of ovary left in! Of course they didnt charge me. So my Sweetie Pie is normal now, thank god! So hopefully Marley will get back to normal pretty soon.

That Vet Smell...
by: Eric

I have one cat that will always react this way when one of our other cats comes back from the vet. It wears off after a few days. My guess is that since they identify each other primarily by smell, the threatened cat must be smelling the foreign scent of the vet's office (an unfamiliar place) or of the other strange animals there. Therefore, the cat's first reaction to that new, scary smell is to get freaked out and hiss. Since it doesn't ever turn into an actual fight, I assume he soon recognizes his friend, and the once the smell vanishes the hissing stops completely.

CAT GONE WEIRD
by: Roz from Driffield, England

Hi it certainly does sound strange about yr cat. Although I cant help you solve his problem I can recommend you use Feliway Plug in, it contains pheremones which the cat produces and has a calming effect. My cat, Sweetie Pie was making these awful yowling noises so I bought Feliway and it has worked.

It was recommended to me by my vet and also the animal welfare centre where she came from. Below are some companies who sell it: PETPLANET.CO.UK PETDRUGSONLINE If you google Feliway im sure you will get some in yr area. Sorry I cant be more helpful.
